A safe and central location
The University is based in Kingston upon Thames, an attractive and lively riverside town in south-west London. Our students benefit from both being close to central London and living in a friendly environment.
Kingston
Kingston upon Thames is just 25 minutes by train from London. Kingston is a very safe area with one of the lowest crime rates in London (Met Police 2007).
The University benefits from a modern environment, but is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and a rich heritage. You will be close to:
- Hampton Court, Bushy Park and Richmond Park;
- lots of pubs and bars; and
- a wide range of restaurants.
You can also take advantage of student life on campus, where you will find a wide range of social and cultural opportunities. Read more about life on campus on the main Kingston Unievrsity website.
Indian community
You will also be close to the large Indian communities based in London. There are 173,000 Indians living here. If you include British people of Indian origin, the figure reaches 437,000 – 6% of London’s population.
The Indian community contributes hugely to London’s multicultural vibrancy. You will find:
- many restaurants specialising in regional Indian food – including Punjabi, Gujarati, Goan and Keralan;
- shops selling specialist Indian food and popular newspapers/magazines;
- Asian television and radio programmes, including BBC Asian Network radio; and
- many places to worship including 40 Hindu temples, 25 Sikh temples, 150 mosques and hundreds of churches.
Popular areas for Indian communities to live include Kingston itself, as well as nearby Tooting, Southall and Wembley.
