Working in the UK
Working during your studies is an excellent way to earn some extra money and gain some work experience at the same time.
After you graduate
We know that finding employment after you graduate is very important and at Kingston we want to help you find that perfect job.
From April 2012 the Tier 1 Post Study Work (PSW) route which enabled graduates to stay and work in the UK for up to two years, will be closed to new applicants.
Graduates of Kingston University, who are still in the UK with a current student visa, may be eligible to switch into Tier 2 work visas for skilled migrants. Tier 2 applicants will need to find an employer who holds a Tier 2 sponsor licence and who has certificates of sponsorship available.
When you apply, you are awarded points based on your:
- salary and allowances;
- sponsorship;
- English language skills; and
- available maintenance (funds).
Whilst 70 points will be required for a Tier 2 visa, it seems you will not need 30 points for the Resident Labour Market test so the most important issue will be the need to be in a job with a salary of at least £20,000 per year gross or to be paid the appropriate rate for your occupation if that rate exceeds £20,000.
